Chasing The Light
One of the simplest things that has made a noticeable difference in my own health and motherhood journey has been reconnecting with natural light and slower daily rhythms.
It sounds almost too simple in a world that constantly pushes complicated wellness routines, but our bodies were truly designed to live in RHYTHM with light!
Over time, I began realizing how much better I felt when I consistently got outside in the morning (no contacts or glasses even - just for a few minutes), opened the windows to air out the house, or simply allowed myself and my family to be outdoors more often. My energy felt steadier, my sleep improved, and I felt more grounded and connected throughout the day.
I know that circadian rhythm is a hot topic right now - for good reason! It is our body’s internal clock that helps govern sleep, hormones, mood, metabolism, energy, and stress response. And guess what helps regulate it? Yep, you guessed it, proper sunlight exposure. Morning sunlight especially helps signal to the brain that it is time to wake up and begin the day, while also supporting melatonin production later in the evening for more restful sleep.
We can feel a lot of pressure (I know I have) to have the latest technology or product to support something like circadian rhythm. It seems like every other week there is something “newer and better” on the market. But, let’s not overcomplicate it. SUNLIGHT is an incredibly powerful tool that is at your fingertips no matter what part of the world you live in. It is one of those simple gifts that reminds us our bodies often respond beautifully to the basics.Take advantage of it!
For many women, especially during more demanding seasons of motherhood, postpartum recovery, or burnout, supporting circadian rhythm can become one of the most foundational and gentle ways to support overall health.
This can look like stepping outside with your warm drink in the morning light, taking a short walk after meals, letting your children play barefoot outside, gardening or sitting in the backyard in the evening light, or opening the curtains first thing in the morning.
These small daily rhythms may seem insignificant, but over time they can become deeply supportive to your nervous system, hormones, energy, and overall wellness.
I think many of us are craving a return to simpler ways of living anyway, right? This is the season to lean into those rhythms that help you feel calmer, more connected, and more supported in your everyday life.
